To me, the paleo lifestyle is all about eliminating the most common sources of food allergens and inflammation from the diet in order to achieve maximum health and disease prevention. The most common causes of death in our Western society are, unfortunately, all naturally preventable conditions.
By eliminating grains, dairy, legumes, refined sugars, unhealthy fats, and processed foods, the most common causes of gastrointestinal distress, gut integrity is maintained. When gut integrity is maintained and intestinal microbiota (the bacteria in your GI tract) are balanced, your digestive system, immune system, nervous system, and circulatory system are strengthened.
If all the systems of the body are functioning smoothly, then you are less likely to experience illness, physically or mentally.
